Its normal surface area is 52 acres. It is owned by Northern States Power Co. Apple River is masonry, concrete. The core is upstream facing, concrete. The foundation is rock. Though originally completed in 1954, the structure was modified in 1953. Its height is 47 feet Maximum discharge is 9000 cubic feet per second. Its capacity is 668 acre feet. Normal storage is 668 acre feet. It drains an area of 555 square miles.
