Construction was completed in 1911. At normal levels it has a surface area of 4.1 square miles. It is owned by Big Bear Municipal Water District. Bear Valley, also known as Big Bear Lake is a gravity dam. Its height is 80 feet with a length of 360 feet. Normal storage is 74000 acre feet. It drains an area of 48.22 square miles.
