Castle Rock, southcentral Wisconsin

Castle Rock Dam is on the Wisconsin River in Adams County, Wisconsin and is used for hydroelectric power, flood control and recreation purposes. Construction was completed in 1950. It has a normal surface area of 23 square miles. It is owned by Wisconsin River Power Co.

 

Castle Rock is a gravity dam, of earthen construction, concrete. The core is homogeneous, earth. The foundation is soil. Though originally completed in 1950, the structure was modified in 1950. Its height is 38 feet with a length of 18700 feet. Maximum discharge is 225000 cubic feet per second. Its capacity is 175000 acre feet. Normal storage is 136000 acre feet. It drains an area of 6845 square miles.
