Cooney, southcentral Montana

Cooney Dam is on Red Lodge Creek in Carbon County, Montana and is used for irrigation purposes. It has been been there since 1937. It has a normal surface area of 1.3 square miles. It is owned by the State Of Montana, D.N.R.C., W.R.D.

 

Cooney is of earthen construction. The foundation is rock. Its height is 97 feet with a length of 2260 feet. Maximum discharge is 880 cubic feet per second. Its capacity is 24195 acre feet. Normal storage is 14000 acre feet. It drains an area of 206 square miles.
