Gaston Shoals Upper, South Carolina

Gaston Shoals Upper Dam is on the Broad River in Chreokee County, South Carolina and is used for hydroelectric power purposes. Construction was completed in 1908. It has a normal surface area of 251 acres. It is owned by Duke Power Company.

 

Gaston Shoals Upper is concrete, a gravity dam. The core is homogeneous, concrete. The foundation is rock. Its height is 45 feet with a length of 707 feet. Maximum discharge is 150000 cubic feet per second. Normal storage is 2500 acre feet. It drains an area of 1250 square miles.
