Gathright Dam, central Virginia
Moomaw is the result of Gathright Dam on the Jackson River in Alleghany County, Virginia and is used for flood control and recreation, among other things. Construction was completed in 1978. It has a normal surface area of 4 square miles. It is owned by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.
