Hannibal Locks And Dam, West Virginia

Hannibal Pool is formed by Hannibal Locks and Dam on the Ohio River in Wetzel County, West Virginia and is used for improved navigation purposes. Construction was completed in 1974. At normal levels it has a surface area of 10.4 square miles. It is owned by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.

 

Hannibal Locks And Dam, also known as Hannibal Pool is a gravity dam. The core is homogeneous, concrete. The foundation is rock. Its length is 1403 feet. Maximum discharge is 335000 cubic feet per second. Its capacity is 130000 acre feet. Normal storage is 130000 acre feet. It drains an area of 25967 square miles.
