Construction was completed in 1850. At normal levels it has a surface area of 3.6 square miles. It is owned by the City Of Holyoke Gas And Electric Department. Holyoke - Overflow No. 1 is masonry, a gravity dam, of earthen construction. Its height is 30 feet with a length of 834 feet. Maximum discharge is 3364 cubic feet per second. Its capacity is 68900 acre feet. Normal storage is 26000 acre feet. It drains an area of 8309 square miles.
