Hubbard Lake, east Michigan

Hubbard Lake is on the Thunder Bay in Alpena County, Michigan and is used for hydroelectric power and recreation purposes. Construction was completed in 1890. Its normal surface area is 14.5 square miles. It is owned by Alpena Power Co.

 

Hubbard Lake is a gravity dam, of earthen construction. The core is assumed to be upstream facing, concrete. The foundation is assumed to be soil. Its height is 6 feet with a length of 108 feet. Maximum discharge is 1100 cubic feet per second. Its capacity is 57000 acre feet. Normal storage is 57000 acre feet. It drains an area of 143 square miles.
