Lake Chautauqua, west Illinois
Lake Chautauqua Dam is on the Illinois River in Mason County, Illinois and is used for recreation purposes. Construction was completed in 1960. It has a normal surface area of 3.5 square miles. It is owned by U. S. Fish and Wildlife Service.
Lake Chautauqua Dam is of earthen construction. Though originally completed in 1960, the structure was modified in 1998. Its height is 15 feet with a length of 40000 feet. Maximum discharge is 20000 cubic feet per second. Its capacity is 45000 acre feet. Normal storage is 13300 acre feet. It drains an area of 10 square miles.
