Lake of the Ozarks is a man-made reservoir on the Osage River in the central Missouri Ozarks. It has over 1150 miles of shoreline and the main channel is 92 miles in length. Though designed for hydroelectric power, Lake of the Ozarks is an important Midwest vacation destination with more than 3 million visitors each year. Vacation homes are plentiful. Some people call it the "Midwest Coast" because, in all, more than 70,000 properties provide enjoyment of the lakeshore and its spectacular scenery. Public access is provided by Lake of the Ozarks State Park (Missouri's largest) and Ha Ha Tonka State Park, as well as others.
