Lake Powhatan, northwest North Carolina

Lake Powhatan is impounded by Powhatan Dam on Bent Creek in Buncombe County, North Carolina and is used for recreation and fish and wildlife protection purposes. It was built in 1942. Its normal surface area is 13 acres. It is owned by Pisgah Ranger District.

 

Powhatan, also known as Lake Powhatan is concrete. Its height is 23 feet with a length of 126 feet. Maximum discharge is 100 cubic feet per second. Its capacity is 79 acre feet. Normal storage is 79 acre feet. It drains an area of 6 square miles.
