Lake Whelchel, South Carolina

 

Scnoname 11001, also known as Lake Whelchel Dam is of earthen construction. The core is assumed to be homogeneous, earth. The foundation is assumed to be soil. Though originally completed in 1964, the structure was modified in 1989. Its height is 70 feet with a length of 2100 feet. Maximum discharge is 13900 cubic feet per second. Its capacity is 9600 acre feet. Normal storage is 5800 acre feet. It drains an area of 14.6 square miles.
