Liberty Dam, northeast MarylandLiberty Dam is on the North Branch and Patapsco River in Baltimore County, Maryland and is used for drinking water and recreation purposes. Construction was completed in 1953. At normal levels it has a surface area of 4.9 square miles. It is owned by Baltimore City Dpw. Liberty Dam is a gravity dam. The foundation is rock. Though originally completed in 1953, the structure was modified in 1953. Its height is 175 feet with a length of 704 feet. Maximum discharge is 96800 cubic feet per second. Its capacity is 177000 acre feet. Normal storage is 132000 acre feet. It drains an area of 164 square miles.
