Moosehead Lake, west MaineMoosehead Lake West Dam is impounded by Moosehead West Outlet Dam on the Kennebec River in Somerset County, Maine and is used for hydroelectric power, flood control, recreation and drinking water purposes. Construction was completed in 1835. It has a normal surface area of 116 square miles. It is owned by Kennebec Water Power Co. Moosehead - West Outlet, also known as Moosehead Lake West Dam is concrete, a gravity dam, of earthen construction. Its height is 17.5 feet with a length of 830 feet. Maximum discharge is 3900 cubic feet per second. Its capacity is 1.4e+06 acre feet. Normal storage is 1.08e+06 acre feet. It drains an area of 1268 square miles.
