Fontana Lake is a 29-mile-long scenic mountain lake with more than 280 miles of shoreline and nearly 11,000 acres of water at normal summer pool elevations. Chatuge Lake amid the Appalachian Mountains has 130 miles of shoreline and 7,000 surface acres at normal summer pool levels. Cherokee National Forest covers nearly 630,000 acres in ten East Tennessee counties. Great Smoky Mountains National Park attracts over nine million visitors each year.
