Oglala Dam, west South Dakota

Oglala Dam is on White Clay Creek in Shannon County, South Dakota and is used for irrigation, recreation and drinking water purposes. It was built in 1941. Its normal surface area is 643 acres. It is owned by Oglala Sioux Tribe.

 

Oglala Dam is of earthen construction. Its height is 80 feet with a length of 2600 feet. Maximum discharge is 47300 cubic feet per second. Its capacity is 18300 acre feet. Normal storage is 10800 acre feet. It drains an area of 393 square miles.
