Orwell Reservoir and Dam, west Minnesota
Orwell Reservoir and Dam is on the Otter Tail River in Otter Tail County, Minnesota and is used for drinking water, recreation, fish and wildlife protection and flood control purposes. Construction was completed in 1953. Its normal surface area is 1.3 square miles. It is owned by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.
Orwell Reservoir & Dam, also known as Orwell Reservoir is of earthen construction. The core is homogeneous, earth. The foundation is soil. Though originally completed in 1953, the structure was modified in 1980. Its height is 60 feet with a length of 1355 feet. Maximum discharge is 20400 cubic feet per second. Its capacity is 20600 acre feet. Normal storage is 8050 acre feet. It drains an area of 1820 square miles.
