Potomac River Dam 5, northcentral MarylandPotomac River Dam #5 Dam is on the Potomac River in Washington County, Maryland and is used for hydroelectric power and recreation purposes. Construction was completed in 1850. At normal levels it has a surface area of 490 acres. It is owned by Us Department of Interior, National Park Service C&O Canal Nat Hist Park. Potomac River Dam #5 is a gravity dam. Though originally completed in 1850, the structure was modified in 1993. Its height is 20 feet with a length of 811 feet. Maximum discharge is 340000 cubic feet per second. Its capacity is 44300 acre feet. Normal storage is 4900 acre feet. It drains an area of 5100 square miles.
