Savage River Dam, northwest Maryland
Savage Reservoir is impounded by Savage River Dam on the Savage River in Garrett County, Maryland and is used for drinking water and flood control, among other things. Construction was completed in 1952. It has a normal surface area of 360 acres. It is owned by Upper Potomac River Commission.
Savage River Dam, also known as Savage Reservoir is of earthen construction, rock fill. The core is earth. The foundation is rock. Though originally completed in 1952, the structure was modified in 1980. Its height is 184 feet with a length of 1050 feet. Maximum discharge is 97200 cubic feet per second. Its capacity is 31800 acre feet. Normal storage is 20000 acre feet. It drains an area of 105 square miles.
