South Lake, northcentral New York

South Lake is on the South Branch Black River in Herkimer County, New York and is used for improved navigation purposes. Construction was completed in 1901. It has a normal surface area of 499 acres. It is owned by Nys Canal Corp.

 

South Lake Dam is of earthen construction. Its height is 30 feet with a length of 380 feet. Maximum discharge is 625 cubic feet per second. Its capacity is 5480 acre feet. Normal storage is 4840 acre feet.
