Rappahannock River Valley National Wildlife Refuge is the newest of three refuges that comprise the Eastern Virginia Rivers National Wildlife Refuge Complex. Belle Isle State Park has seven miles of frontage on the north shore of the Rappahannock, and it borders Deep and Mulberry creeks. Chippokes Plantation State Park is a living historical exhibit located in a rural agricultural area along the James River in Surry County.
