Townsend, Pennsylvania

Townsend Dam is on the Beaver River in Beaver County, Pennsylvania and is used for hydroelectric power purposes. Construction was completed in 1913. It has a normal surface area of 45 acres. It is owned by Beaver Falls Municipal Authority.

 

Townsend is timber crib, concrete. The core is upstream facing, concrete. The foundation is rock. Its height is 13 feet with a length of 450 feet. Maximum discharge is 9500 cubic feet per second. Its capacity is 500 acre feet. Normal storage is 160 acre feet. It drains an area of 3112 square miles.
