National Portrait Gallery During the building's renovation, the National Portrait Gallery is thriving by associating with museums and other institutions both nationally and in the Washington, D.C., area through its many traveling exhibitions and educational outreach programs. Nearly 1,000 portraits from the Gallery's permanent collection of paintings, sculptures, prints, drawings, and photographs are traveling to museums and other institutions across the United States, as well as to Europe and Japan.
Driving DirectionsAn extensive renovation of the Patent Office Building, which houses the National Portrait Gallery, began on January 10, 2000. The building will be closed to the public until this major renovation is completed in 2006.
