Watauga Lake, Tennessee

Watauga Lake is formed by Watauga Dam on the Watauga River in Carter County, Tennessee and is used for flood control, hydroelectric power, improved navigation and recreation purposes. It was built in 1948. It has a normal surface area of 7.3 square miles. It is owned by Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA).

 

Watauga, also known as Watauga Lake is rock fill, of earthen construction. The core is earth. The foundation is soil. Its length is 925 feet. Maximum discharge is 62000 cubic feet per second. Its capacity is 677000 acre feet. Normal storage is 324000 acre feet. It drains an area of 468 square miles.
