Wallace Lake has six swimming beachs and beach houses, camping, fishing, boating, picnicking and a State Park with a golf course, swimming pool, and cabins. Kisatchie National Forest offers more than 40 developed recreation sites and over 100 miles of trails for hiking, mountain biking, and horseback riding. Catahoula National Wildlife Refuge was established in 1958 as a wintering area for migratory waterfowl. Grand Cote National Wildlife Refuge is located in Avoyelles Parish outside of Marksville, Louisiana.
