West Thompson Lake, southeast ConnecticutWest Thompson Lake is impounded by West Thompson Dam on the Quinebaug River in Windham County, Connecticut and is used for flood control and recreation purposes. Construction was completed in 1965. It has a normal surface area of 200 acres. It is owned by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. West Thompson Dam, also known as West Thompson Lake is of earthen construction, a gravity dam. The core is earth. The foundation is rock, soil. Its height is 70 feet with a length of 2550 feet. Maximum discharge is 63000 cubic feet per second. Its capacity is 47800 acre feet. Normal storage is 1200 acre feet. It drains an area of 174 square miles.
