Wolf Creek, northwest North Carolina

Wolf Creek Dam is on Wolf Creek in Jackson County, North Carolina and is used for hydroelectric power purposes. Construction was completed in 1955. At normal levels it has a surface area of 40 acres. It is owned by Nantahala Power and Light, A Division Of Duke Energy.

 

Wolf Creek is of earthen construction, rock fill. The core is earth. The foundation is rock. Its height is 175 feet with a length of 810 feet. Maximum discharge is 44100 cubic feet per second. Normal storage is 1340 acre feet. It drains an area of 15 square miles.
